| The Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza is one of the greatest private art collections in the world given to the Spanish nation by the late Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza (1921–2002).
The collection spans eight centuries of European painting, and whilst it does not cover every school and every style it does give a powerful series of highlights over this period. One of the focal points is the early European painting, with a major collection of 14th and 15th century works. Italian paintings by Duccio, and his contemporaries, and works of the early Flemish and Dutch painters like Van Eyck, Dürer, and Holbein. Other highlights include works by the most famous Renaissance and Baroque painters, including Rubens, Rembrandt, and Titian. Also important for the Museum's collection are Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works by artists like Monet Renoir, and Van Gogh, as well as twentieth century masterpieces l by Picasso and Mondrian.
