The walled Roman city of Segovia, is spectacularly situated on the north side of the Guardaramma Mountains and is one of the most important historical cities in Spain with a wealth of monuments, including its famous cathedral, ancient Roman aquaduct , the castle of Alcazar, and various churches built in the Romanesque style including San Esteban, San Martin, and San Millan. Its winding streets and narrow pedestrianised alleyways mixed with the aroma of roasting suckling pig leave a powerful impression on the visitor. The old city is also surrounded by walls built in the 10th century BC, probably on its original Roman base. The city is a UNESCO world heritage site in 1985.
