With so much of the city inaccessible to vehicles – the best way to sightsee the old town is on foot. Out tour begins in the Plaza de España and takes us to visit the ancient Egyptian Templo Debod . It then winds down the Parque Oeste and into the Royal Sabitini Gardens and up to the 18 th century Royal Palace and The Plaza de Oriente viewing the statues of the Kings of Spain with the centrepiece of Felipe IV. We then continue along the Calle Bailen taking in the Cathedral of La Almudena before winding down to see the remains of the 10 th century Moorish Alcazar ( fortress) and then heading back up to the Calle Mayor and visiting the 15 th century Plaza de La Villa and heading down passed the Mercado de San Miguel and the Basilica de San Miguel . We then go down the Cuevas and into the Plaza Mayor through the Arco de Cuchilleros where we can view this impressive square. After we head out along the Calle Postas and back onto the Calle Mayor before heading down to the busy shopping street of Calle Arenal and finishing the tour at the Madroño statue in the Puerta del Sol .
